2026 is my 4th tax season. I've managed a VITA program (free tax prep for low-income folks in Vermont), worked with US tax-filers abroad on international returns, and helped small business owners set up their books. What I've learned: you deserve confidence about all your financial decisions, not just taxes.

Why This Matters

The US has the most complex tax and financial systems in the world. The promise of dangling a refund at the end of the year, with money that they have been borrowing from you since your first paycheck, or making it more complex if you work for yourself. Not to mention our "credit system"...

I look forward to the day this work is phased out, whether AI makes it easy or (better yet) the system is rebuilt to benefit people instead of institutions like TurboTax. Until then, let's take a deep breath and handle it together.
